The Very Hungry Excavator

Once upon a time, there was a very hungry excavator.  His name was Barney.

1

He was very hungry.  So, he started out into the wide, wild world, to look for some food.

2

The first day, he ate a lot of dirt and twigs.

3

… but he was still hungry.

The second day, he ate a big, dead stump.

4

… but he was still hungry.

The third day, he decided to try something a bit more spicy.  He ate a fire!

5

Afterward, he sat back and picked the ashes out of his teeth.

6

… but he was still hungry.

On the fourth day, he ate a fistful of logs,

7

… a very large stump,

8

… a fence post,

9

… a rhododendron,

10

… a two-man rock,

10a

… a large tree,

11

… and a small shed.

12

That night, he had a tummy ache.

13

… and a broken tooth.

14

After a visit with a couple of welding torches, a sledgehammer, and a short convalescence, he decided to change up his routine and pursue other interests.

He tried climbing…

15

… but he didn’t get very high.

He tried precision work…

16 17

… and while that was fun, he soon found that he was most pleased when he was actively engaged in his favorite hobbies.

He ate another tree…

18

… and a REALLY BIG stump…

19

… and a log…

20

…and polished it all off with a little stump for dessert.

21

And then he folded his legs underneath him, gave a deep sigh of contentment, and allowed himself to be gently carried away.

22

His friends all missed him very much, and hoped he would find many other interesting things to chew on.

Word came back alter that his last act of sabotage was to savagely mangle the trailer that had taken him away.  Perhaps he felt the need for more fiber and iron in his diet.

Long live the purple dinosaur!

I am a farm-raised homeschooling mom. I take great joy in making nutritious food that inspires people to take seconds. Thirds, anyone? We are a God-fearing, Christ worshiping family that enjoys good friends and good eats. If the kitchen is clean and the living room carpet is visible, then that's a nice bonus.
