The joys of power outages

Last week, we had a very busy Friday planned.

Homeschooling.

A playdate.

A group purchase, with the sorting happening at our house.  26 families were involved.

On Monday, a notice was put on the front door:  “There will be a scheduled power outage in your neighborhood while crews work on the power lines.  This will occur on Friday, March 16, from 9 AM till 5 PM.”

Really?!  What kind of timing is that?!

The playdate was rescheduled.  Natter took his bookwork to work with Daddy.  Rosebud and I read on the couch by the window.

It really wasn’t too bad.  The sun came out, and the windows let in a lot of light.

For one thing – we had the first 9-hour stretch of rain-free weather in a week.

At 9:00 AM, the rain stopped.

At 9:30 the power went off.

At 9:45, the sun came out.

At 4:00, the ‘group buy’ people assembled, and we got everything distributed.

At 4:45, the power came back on.

At 7:00, the last person had left.

At 7:15, it started hailing.  Hard.  How’s that for timing?

I’m glad I picked up that old phone for $1 at the thrift store- our regular phone won’t work with the power out!

I am a farm-raised homeschooling mom. I take great joy in making nutritious food that inspires people to take seconds. Thirds, anyone? We are a God-fearing, Christ worshiping family that enjoys good friends and good eats. If the kitchen is clean and the living room carpet is visible, then that's a nice bonus.
